Titanium Framing Hammers – How I Fell In Love With Them

| March 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

For the most part I’m a traditionalist. And when these titanium framing hammers first hit the market many years back, needless to say I was a just a bit skeptical.

My skepticism was based not only in trying to believe that something that could only weigh 15 ounces would deliver a blow like my 28 ounce hammer, but I was also skeptical about how anyone would be able to justify the cost of these new titanium framing hammers.

And yes, when they first burst onto the scene they were expensive. Now granted, today that has changed dramatically and I guess like everything else, it just took some time for manufacturers to get it just right.

So off I went down to my local hardware store all ready to buy and try one of these new style hammers. Needless to say, they looked at me like I was from another planet when I asked about what type of titanium framing hammers that they had in stock. And this was a place that knew me! Well, to make a long story short, I called a dear friend of mine who ran a framing business to ask him. I figured if anyone knew he would. He’s the type of guy who always has the newest gizmos and gadgets. And when I asked him about these new hammers it was like turning on a water faucet at full blast! It was like I couldn’t get a word in edgewise! Before I knew it he told me to meet him for coffee and he’d show me.

Now, have you ever swung 2 or 3 baseball bats about 10 times to warm up and then discarded them for just 1? Well, that’s what I felt like when I first picked up one of these new titanium framing hammers. It almost felt to light to be taken seriously. That is until my friend pulled out some 2×4′s nailed together and handed me some nails. OK, I was game. After driving 3 nails in a fraction of the time it normally would have taken me, I smiled. I guess you could say I had one of those light bulb moments. I may be thick headed over a lot of things, but I knew a good thing when I saw it. (or in this case swung it)

I asked him if I could borrow it for awhile and he agreed. And when I remodeled my wife’s clothes closet, I not only used it for the construction, but it worked pretty darn well on the destruction part also. And when I was working over my head, my arm didn’t protest like it usually does with my steel hammer.

Am I sold on these titanium framing hammers? Yes I am. Would I recommend them to a friend who might only use a hammer for around the house jobs? You bet. All you need to do is swing one, and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. Now, about that cost stuff, CLICK HERE to get some of the best deals I could find on titanium framing hammers.

P.S. Here’s a little information about the actual manufacturing process of titanium hammers:
